OSI Group McDonalds attracts many customers every year. Hamburgers made by OSI Group McDonalds are the best food product in the world. An experiment was done by David Whipple who put a McDonald’s burger in the cupboard for 14 years. In 2013, he showed to the world the burger and it was the same.
What makes OSI Group McDonald’s hamburger unique and long lasting?
1: Large pieces of meat are bought from the slaughterhouse and taken to the OSI Group McDonalds. The large pieces of meat are known to reduce chances of meat contamination. This is because of the small surface area available reducing the risk of contamination by bacteria. The meat is then checked to ensure that there is no bone.
2: After a thorough check up process, the meat is then transferred to containers which weigh about 500 kilograms each. A room in the factory is then filled with these containers. Around 500 containers are needed daily and they have to be filled to the brim with meat. OSI Group McDonald’s uses forklift trucks to gather new containers of meat.
3: The meat is then taken to blenders which mince the meat. The grinder ensures that it eliminates small pieces of bones. The machine can process around 400 kilograms of meat at the same time.
4: Once the meat is minced, another machine shapes the minced meat into a round shape. The machines are known to produce types of burgers as beef burgers and vegetarian burgers.
5: Once the burgers are made, they are tested to make sure that they are fit for human consumption and that they meet the product quality. OSI Group McDonalds hamburgers have 20% fat content. The hamburgers are grilled and then tasted to feel the texture and ensure that they are up to high quality standard.
6: Once it is asserted that the hamburgers have the right texture and they meet the standards, the hamburgers are frozen, put in blue plastic bags and then packed into boxes. The boxes are then labelled with information on the production date and where the meat came from. The hamburgers are then put in buns and distributed to the range of restaurants.

OSI Group was founded in 1909 by German immigrant, Otto Kolschowsky. Originally opened as a family meat market, it was originally located in Oak Park, Illinois. Later in 1917, his family meat market grew and expanded. Because of its growth, Otto Kolschowsky relocated his business to Maywood, Illinois. Before OSI Group established its name, it was originally named Otto & Sons back in 1928. It was in 1975 that Otto & Sons became OSI Group. In the 1950s, OSI Group (then, Otto & Sons) were suppliers of fresh ground beef patties for the first Mcdonald’s restaurant. The first Mcdonalds was opened by Ray Kroc in Des Plaines, Illinois.
Today, Mcdonalds is one of the largest fast-food chains, globally. Serving customers worldwide, it can be found in almost every country in the world. Famous for its burgers, we take a look at an article dated October 11th of 2018. The article begins to talk about how its famous burgers are made. Specifically, how Mcdonalds burgers are made from its factory in Germany. The article also talks about how important it is to know the ingredients that are included in what we eat.
It then talks about a man named David Whipple. David Whipple began an “experiment to see how many preservatives there were in a Mcdonald’s burger”. He took the burger and put it in a cupboard” for 14 years. Later in 2013, he revealed that the burger “still looked almost exactly the same.” A program director from the University of Guelph’s Department of Food Science (Keith Warriner), stated that the not-rotting burger “has little to do with preservatives”. Keith Warriner then talks about microbes and the role it plays in the rotting process.
The article then moves on to describe the tour of the fast-food giant’s factory in Günzburg, Germany. The factory is one of the largest of OSI Group’s factories. It says that an “average of 5 million burgers” are produced every day there. It then moves on to talk about hygiene at the factory. A picture is also included showing an employee in protective clothing at a sanitizing machine.
The OSI group is a popular food supplier in the world economy today. The company started from a humble background, to a major corporate business in the American history economically. The OSI group which later became the OSI industries started back in the beginning of the 20th century, with Otto Kolschowsky as a member of this German-immigrant community, which was set up in a rapidly growing city filled with immigrants who set up farms on the plains of Chicago. After some years of his introduction to the business, Kolschowsky expanded a small butcher shop which he had opened in the west sides of Chicago to a small wholesale during the approach of the end of World War I. Later, the company was rebranded to Otto & Sons and operated to be a successful business locally.
The transition of the OSI group from a regional supplier of food to an international corporate took place two decades after the Second World War with Kroc coming up with product model which would see every restaurant served with a consistent food surplus. In the year 1945, Kroc opened a new restaurant by the name McDonald’s restaurant in Des Plaines, Illinois. This gave a challenge to the Otto & Sons to strategize on how to steadily supply affordable food to the consumer consistently and transport the food over long distances due to the expanding scope of the McDonald’s restaurants. In the year 1975, Otto &Sons transitioned to become the OSI industries. This is when the company fully got recognized as an advanced technological company operating on a large scale level and as a manufacturer.
In the same year, Sheldon Lavin joined OSI industries as a partner due to expansion of the company globally and to the fact that the children of Otto & Sons were aging and approaching retire. In 1990, Lavin became the CEO of OSI industries due to the complexity in running the company and the links it required internationally. His expertise as an investor and guru in the banking system helped him handle the pressure of the growth phase of the company.
In the 2000’s there have been very few companies in any industry that have experienced the kind of growth that OSI Group has. David McDonald has been a major contributor throughout the company’s spectacular arc of growth. In fact, David McDonald has been with the company for more than 30 years and has worked his way up from his first position as a project manager to his current role as president and chief operating officer.
The food industry would not be the same without OSI Group in the mix. No one could’ve predicted that OSI would become the global leader in the food industry it is today based on its beginnings as a local butcher shop in Chicago. A huge turn of fate happened however and it became one of the primary regional meat suppliers for the then-novel McDonald’s restaurant chain. Since then OSI Group has continued to expand its operations in both the states and internationally.
David McDonald grew up on a farm in northeast Iowa so he is very familiar with the starting point of the food supply chain. As an Iowa native he went on to attend Iowa State University. He graduated from the university with a bachelor’s degree in animal science. He is still heavily involved with many activities at the university. He is truly a standout alumni as leader of one of the nation’s most successful privately held companies. He has proven many people wrong by accomplishing what he has growing up as an Iowa farm boy who many thought would be near impossible for him to lead a conglomerate like OSI Group.
OSI Group is a global company that openly embraces the concept of inclusivity with a diverse workforce. The company currently has around 20,000 employees spread across dozens of facilities in 17 countries.
David McDonald spends his free time with his wife and six children.
OSI Group is an international company that deals in the provision of various food products. The company’s CEO is Sheldon Lavin who has worked in this industry for over four decades now. He has seen OSI Group grow from a local company supplying hamburger meat to becoming an internationally recognized giant that has hired over 20,000 employees.
One of the pillars of the company is sustainability. Through its people, it has demonstrated care for the environment. They are motivated to continue building a sustainable and at the same time productive business. Among its sustainability initiatives is a reduction in power consumption. It has installed new equipment in some of its plants to lower the overall amount of power that the company consumes. The other initiative that was taken to make OSI Group more energy efficient is the installation of systems that allow heat recovery in their plants.
The success of the company in various areas has earned it various accolades and recognition and its leaders have been recognized as well. For instance, in 2016 the company’s CEO, Sheldon Lavin was the winner of the Global Visionary Award because he has been a visionary leader in the company, and led it to achieve its current success. In 2017, the company’s operation in the United Kingdom was the recipient of International Safety Award which recognized the efforts it has put in safety management and health. It is not the first time that the British Safety Council has honored the OSI Food Solutions UK.
In the recent past, OSI Group began to expand operations. It has been acquiring new properties to support growth in various countries. Among them is a warehouse in the state of Chicago and purchase of Baho Food, which will expand operations in Europe. In 2016, Flagship Food Group sold Flagship Europe to the company. This expansion has also happened to the company’s operations in Spain. It has expanded its chicken processing capacity in this country to keep up with the change in demand in this region. The new production line introduced in Spain will double the quantity of chicken processed daily. The expansion efforts are meant to increase OSI Group’s ability to meet the food needs of its customers.

Established over a century ago, OSI Industries has undergone numerous transformations. The brand has embraced new technologies, ventured into new global markets expanded its products list to cover vegetables and more meat products like poultry and pork, and even changed its name. But some of the most important tenets of its foundation that make the brand unique in the eye of its customers haven’t changed. These have played the biggest role in contributing to the company’s success and continued sustainability. They include:
OSI Industries takes pride in coming up with some of the most authentic meat products currently available in the market. According to Sheldon Lavin, OSI industries has a created a company culture around the delivery of some of the freshest and superior quality products since its establishment. The company has therefore put in place several strategies aimed at maintaining this authenticity even as it goes global and captures new markets.
The Sheldon led company started by entering into strategic partnerships or acquiring organically reared animals and vegetable products. For instance, OSI recently acquired Amick Farms a consortium of vertically managed farms specializing in the production of organic poultry products.
Superior customer care services
There is a reason most of OSI Industries first local and international clients stuck with the company even as they went global. Most attribute this to the level of care shown by the Aurora-based food manufacturer. OSI has strived to maintain this superior customer service culture by ensuring that they always meet the client’s supply demands and that orders are dispersed and delivered on time.
This explains why such international food chain restaurants McDonald have continually relied on OSI or meat product supplies since its establishment. Even when both companies ventured into the international scenes, they stuck to their age-old mutual association.
About OSI Industries
The food manufacturing company was started by Otto Kolschowsky in 1909 as a corner butcher shop. It would however gradually evolve into a small family company in the late 1920’s after expanding to wholesale services but remain localized to the United States market. Sheldon Lavin’s into the company would, however, set its success ball rolling and lay the ground for its penetration into the global scene.

These facilities are a huge help in providing the infrastructure that the company needs to continue to grow. Plus, any workers that are seeking jobs will have them. OSI offers employment to this that would otherwise be laid off. It is good that would buy out these companies in an effort to keep their dominance in tact. This helps with the competition that is out there looking to take over only to find the OSI is not going anywhere anytime soon. This is good for the company that has over 200,000 employees. You should consider working for them.

OSI Industries is the leading food producer in the world. The company operates in 17 countries and with more than 65 food production plants. It has employed over 20,000 employees to serve in the plants.
The company is keen on securing the top position in the food production business. It has expanded its food production activities in different locations around the globe.
From the local market to the international space the company is applying aggressive efforts to ensure the expansion takes place. Sheldon Lavin is the CEO and David McDonald the COO. It is such people who have made sure that the industry is getting the right attention. The processed foods industry is huge because of such leaders who are striving to come up with the new idea now and then.
The expansion of OSI industries in recent years started with the expansion in the local market. OSI acquired a plant that was previously owned by Tyson Foods. The expansion of the plant was a big step in the growth of the company’s operations in North America. For some time, there has been a huge difference in the manner in which the food industry has been growing. We are experiencing an increase in demand for processed food, especially from the millennial. The young generation has increased consumption of processed food making it necessary for companies such as OSI Industries to expand their production capacity. The Tyson’s plant will serve OSI in meeting the high demand for food in the region.
The food production business in the international platform has also been doing well. The expansion of the company’s operation on the European market is an indication of high demand. OSI Industries has partnered with two companies in Europe to facilitate efficient food production. The company is keen on taking over the European food production business and the acquisition of two key players, Baho Food and Flagship Europe, is one that will see the company perform well in the region.
OSI Industries has also expanded the OSI food plant in Toledo. The plant will now produce double the amount of chicken products. The expansion happened due to increased demand for food products from this region. The company is keen on responding to the needs of the market, and that is why they are quick to make a change when it is necessary. If the company maintains this tempo on development and expansion, we are likely to see the company achieve so much more than we have seen.

OSI Industries is already one of the most established food companies in the world . To assume that all OSI is a leading firm is not even an exagerration. It has grown into an outstandingly growing and expanding company still today. It is also to be added here that the reason OSI Industries is leading today is because it delivers the need of its clients. One should also not forget to include here that the best thing about the OSI industries today is that it is doing its best to offer the most valuable line of products that increase the market value of its clients.
It should also be added here that OSI Industries has also reached so far already since its humble beginnings as a corner butcher shop. Right now, it’s no longer an exagerration that it is now the largest food providers across the glboal market. It has even grown so big that it now has a staff of more than 20,000 employees, spread all over the world. The 65 facilities that have been spread all over 17 nations today is now a strong testament of how successful OSI is today. More of the elaborate and detailed information of such success can be found in the Gazette Day article, but there’s more information about such company success found in Patch.com website, too.
In the Patch.com article, it is also revealed that the leadership of David McDonald as President for OSI is what shapes and sustains the leading position of the company today. This kind of leadership must have been honed at its finest when McDonald went to the Iowa State University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in animal science. Such formal background had fuelled him how to run a company in a scale that’s global and robust.
Such educational backgroud had also been recognized by authorities to be oustanding. McDonald was even given the Wallace E. Barron Outstanding Senior Award for such achievement. With that formal background, he can already establish a reputation of excellence. Without such expertise, it may be hard to expect the kind of success that OSI Industries has been enjoying in the many years that it is operating.
The OSI Group began as just a local butcher on the west side of Chicago run by a German immigrant. A lot has changed since then, as they now run over 65 facilities in 17 countries and employ over 20,000 people. They are truly one of the great success stories of the last century.
Otto Kolschowsky was a German immigrant living like many other Germans did at the time in Chicago. Chicago was at the heart of industrial growth and was a jumping off point for many immigrants moving further west. In this setting Otto started a small butcher shop in 1909 which he later went on to call Otto and Sons.
In the early days of OSI Group, still known as Otto and Sons it was a thriving local business. Otto had moved on from running a small butcher shop and had begun to work as more of a wholesaler. Successful but still local.
This all changed however after the second world war when Otto’s sons Harry and Arthur struck a deal with Ray Kroc, the man who created the first McDonalds. As you likely know McDonalds was the first restaurant to mainstream the franchise model.
As they grew so did the technology. One such technology known as flash freezing—cryogenic food processing involved the use of liquid nitrogen to quickly freeze meat to very low temperatures. This created many more opportunities for McDonalds as well OSI Group to expand into new markets and further streamline their business.
From here over the next two decades OSI Group grew their relationship even further. At first they were only one of hundreds of suppliers for McDonalds, but over time through their tight relationship they became one of only four major suppliers. In fact in 1973 they even created a plant entirely dedicated to making product for McDonalds!
They didn’t stop there though. More recently OSI Group purchased both Baho Foods, and Flagship Europe was acquired in 2016. They even started OSI Food Solutions Spain. A century long commitment to excellence has clearly paid off.
