Dr. Jennifer Walden Is a Rarity
Although Dr. Jennifer Walden has numerous affiliations, as you will see below, she wants to be mainly known as a practicing plastic/cosmetic surgeon who has been based in Austin, Texas, for the past eight years. She built a successful practice in New York City but preferred to return to her hometown as a single mother to raise very young twin boys.
Dr. Walden’s Hospital Affiliations include the diverse combination of the following:
* Assistant Attending at New York’s Bellevue Hospital from June 2005 to present
* Associate Attending at New York’s Lenox Hill Hospital from October 2004 to present
* Associate Attending at Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat from July 2004 to present
* Aesthetic Surgery Fellowship Program from February 2008 to present
* Program Director at Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital
Dr. Walden now focuses exclusively on cosmetic surgery that includes face-lifts, breast augmentations, eyelid lifts, and rhinoplasties. She also performs liposuction on arms, inner thighs, and the abdomen and injects soft-tissue fillers and Botox.
She advises that not many female doctors go into cosmetic plastic surgery. Of the approximate 8,100 United States board-certified plastic surgeons, women only number 851, and just a dozen live in Texas. In addition, only about 180 are members of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, the leading professional board-certified cosmetic surgeons organization.
What advantages does Dr. Walden feel that she has as a female plastic surgeon? Her answer is that 91 percent of all cosmetic surgeries are performed on women, and they are more comfortable talking to a female surgeon about correcting intricate body parts. They also know that she will not be judgmental and that she sympathizes because she has gone through some of the same experiences as her patients. Additionally, the majority of women don’t want to be the male ideal “Barbie doll” but want to deal with significant body changes that have occurred because of giving birth, breast-feeding, spreading abdominal wall muscles, and similar situations.
Walden uses various technologies including the Vectra 3-D imaging that visualizes a patient’s look prior to surgery, has developed breast surgery instruments that are carried by the Accurate Scientific and Surgical Instruments (ASSI), and is proud to have been recognized as one of “The Best Plastic Surgeons in America” by American Way.
